WHAT IS BEE POLLEN? WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF BEE POLLEN?

what is bee pollen

Pollen is the primary source of protein necessary for bees to complete their growth and development and for the maturation of their salivary glands. Pollen represents the male reproductive unit of flowers, and worker bees inadvertently collect it as they move from flower to flower during honey production, facilitating pollination and the collection of pollen necessary for the nourishment of bees. The collected pollen is stored in the pollen baskets on the back legs of the bee, brought back to the hive, and then moistened with nectar or honey before being deposited into the cells of the honeycomb. Depending on weight, a single bee can carry 15-45 mg of pollen back to the hive. The nutrient composition of pollen varies depending on the region, season, and botanical diversity in which beekeeping is carried out. Pollen naturally contains phenolics and flavonoids, as well as approximately 15-25% protein, 45-60% carbohydrates, 5-10% fatty acids, 10-19% fiber, 3-8% minerals, and 1-3.5% vitamins. In addition, pollen naturally contains iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium, zinc, phosphorus, and vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, folic acid, biotin, E, and C, and it is known worldwide as a "complete food."
